In the presentation, industrial water management is analysed, with a focus on the technical, regulatory, economic and sanctioning aspects of wastewater discharges. The reference regulatory framework is examined in depth, both at European level, with Framework Directive 2000/60/EC and Directive 91/271/EEC, and at Italian level, with Legislative Decree 152/06, which regulates water protection and water resource management.
The classification criteria for discharges and the regulatory parameters to be met are examined, including the emission limits for industrial, domestic and stormwater. Particular attention is paid to discharge authorisations, such as the Single Environmental Authorisation (AUA) and the Integrated Environmental Authorisation (AIA), which are required to regulate the discharge of wastewater into receiving water bodies.
The main monitoring and control systems are also illustrated, with an in-depth look at sampling methods, reference parameters and the responsibilities of water service management bodies. Finally, the administrative and penal sanctions provided for non-compliance with regulatory limits are analysed, emphasising the importance of proper wastewater management to minimise environmental impact and ensure compliance with current regulations.
