Design of wastewater treatment plants

The design of wastewater treatment plants follows a structured process that complies with current regulations, particularly the new Codice dei Contratti Pubblici (Legislative Decree 36/2023). This framework includes progressive phases, from the requirement analysis to the executive design, ensuring environmental compliance, efficiency, and safety.

The initial phases (DOCFAP) include feasibility studies and the definition of design alternatives. Subsequently, the technical-economic feasibility project (PFTE) determines the optimal solution, while the executive project details every construction and system aspect. Starting in 2025, digital tools will be mandatory for contracts exceeding one million euros, promoting a more integrated and efficient management approach.

Essential technical documents include the mass balance, flow and process diagrams, hydraulic profile, and plant layouts, all crucial for system sizing and optimization. The design must also consider sustainability by reducing environmental impact and improving energy efficiency.

The engineering of wastewater treatment plants requires a multidisciplinary approach, where technological innovation, digitalization, and regulatory compliance are key elements in ensuring effective and sustainable facilities.importanza di una progettazione integrata, rispettosa delle normative ambientali e della sicurezza operativa, è centrale.
